Software Engineer, Customer Ops

We are looking for a product-minded Software Engineer to join our Customer Ops squad, with the role open in London, Paris or Barcelona.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working closely with Product and Design, understanding operational challenges and turning them into simple, reliable customer experiences.

You will own features end to end, from understanding the problem and shaping the solution through technical design, development, testing, deployment and continuous improvement.

The Customer Ops squad works on the systems and workflows that support customers throughout their journey with Spendesk. This includes customer setup, onboarding, lifecycle operations, feature management, billing, cashback and notifications.

You will also contribute to the internal tools and automation that help our teams operate efficiently, including demo environments, operational workflows and self-service capabilities. The role is full-stack, with opportunities to work across backend services, APIs and integrations as well as user-facing and operational interfaces.

Our stack

• TypeScript

• Node.js for backend and banking applications

• React on the frontend

• PostgreSQL for data storage; Redis, SQS, and Kafka for jobs and queues

• Terraform to define our infrastructure

• Kubernetes, Lambdas, and Step Functions to run our applications

• AWS as our cloud provider

• GitHub Actions for CI

Key Responsibilities

• Build and improve customer setup and onboarding workflows.

• Develop features supporting the customer lifecycle, including billing, cashback, feature management and notifications.

• Design and maintain reliable integrations with third-party providers and internal services.

• Work with APIs, webhooks and asynchronous workflows across multiple systems.

• Contribute to operational tooling, demo environments and workflow automation.

• Build self-service capabilities that make customer and internal operations more efficient.

• Solve technical challenges around cross-service consistency, retries, failure handling and data synchronisation.

• Work closely with Product and Design to turn customer and operational needs into clear, effective solutions.

• Own features from discovery through production, monitoring and continuous improvement.

• Contribute to the quality, maintainability and usability of the squad’s systems.

• Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly in your daily workflow.

Why join Customer Ops?

• Work on highly visible features that directly shape the customer experience.

• Improve the first steps customers take with Spendesk, from setup and onboarding to their ongoing lifecycle.

• Solve practical engineering problems involving integrations, APIs, webhooks and distributed workflows.

• Build tools that make both customer operations and internal teams more efficient.

• Work in a domain where product thinking and technical ownership are equally important.

• Join a squad where your work can have a direct and measurable operational impact.

What we're looking for

• Fluency in written and spoken English (our business language)

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience, ideally in a product-focused environment.

• Strong TypeScript skills, with professional experience in Node.js and/or React.

• Experience building and maintaining production features.

• Good engineering fundamentals, including testing, code quality and maintainable system design.

• The ability to take ownership of features and work autonomously while collaborating closely with Product and Design.

• A strong product mindset and interest in understanding customer and operational problems.

• Willingness to contribute to technical discussions and grow towards broader ownership over time.

As we are an international team, please submit your application and CV in English.
