About the role
Our Compliance team blends regulatory expertise with data-driven thinking to make sure our products meet legal and policy requirements and deliver real value to customers. In a fast-moving, digital environment, they stay one step ahead by finding smart, scalable ways to manage conduct risk.
We're looking for a Compliance Officer with experience in various financial industry regulations, and expertise managing AML/CFT, fraud, and sanctions in financial crime risk.

What you'll be doing
- Engaging with key frontline stakeholders to provide compliance advice on regulatory reporting and risk design for financial regulations, AML/CFT, fraud, and economic sanctions
- Identifying risks and issues related to financial regulations, AML/CFT, fraud, and economic sanctions, and escalating them when needed
- Responding to escalations from the first line, and providing practical advice on required actions
- Establishing internal operational rules to monitor, investigate, and report on financial regulations and financial crime risks
- Verifying that the company's internal management and governance systems for financial regulations, AML/CFT, fraud, and sanctions risks are functioning properly
- Providing in-house training for employees on financial regulations, including AML/CFT, fraud, and economic sanctions risk
- Managing changes in laws, regulations, and guidelines, and ensuring they're appropriately reflected in internal policies and rules
- Responding to inquiries from regulators and other parties
- Promoting the creation of a robust compliance system and fostering compliance awareness among employees
What you'll need
- 3+ years of experience in compliance within a regulatory authority, such as a bank or fund transfer business
- Expertise in financial regulations, such as AML/CFT, transaction monitoring, investigation, and reporting
- Knowledge of the Banking Act, Criminal Proceeds Transfer Prevention Act, Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act, and other financial regulations in Japan
- The ability to collaborate with global teams, and execute work with a sense of urgency
- An understanding of business needs to operate with deep strategic thinking
- The ability to verify and provide assurance on financial crime countermeasure, monitoring, investigation, and reporting
- Drive compliance reviews and analysis of new regulatory developments and maintain surveillance of developments that affect business activities
- Work with internal risk and compliance teams (Financial Crime, Compliance, Operations, Risk & Control, etc.) to identify clear steps required to mitigate regulatory risks and provide those recommendations in the form of clear business requirements
- Assist in preparing reports to management and the Board and escalate key compliance and high-risk issues within existing governance structures
- Committed to and actively involved in world-class compliance and independent oversight of this important issue
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in Japanese (native level)
Nice to have
- Experience negotiating with financial authorities regarding financial licences and registrations
